"To Kill a Mockingbird": a modern spin on a banned book
We are pleased to announce that we have received a generous grant for our Motor City Public Library in Detroit. Through this opportunity, we have created a small digital library featuring interactive web and learning resources about one of the most frequently banned, yet powerful works of fiction in history: “To Kill a Mockingbird.” This collection is dedicated to our tenth grade students in the city of Detroit.
Through exciting learning resources, interactive games and web 2.0 features, the collection provides a modern twist to this timeless classic. Students will gain a comprehensive overview of the story as well as an insight into civil rights and segregation, the death penalty, the rural south and background about the author, Harper Lee. We have included a separate page with links to additional articles, videos, blogs and images that would be of interest to our high school users and to the greater community. We hope that our digital library will provide inspiration to these teenagers and compel them to read other banned books in the future.
